Jody Hoffer Gittell is an associate professor of management at Brandeis University.
One of her research center on the airline industry. She is the author of Up in the Air: How the Airlines Can Improve Performance by Engaging Their Employees and The Southwest Way: Using the Power of Relationships to Achieve High Performance. She is also the author of High Performacne Healthcare.
She has developed a theory of relational coordination, proposing that work is most effectively coordinated through relationships of shared goals, shared knowledge and mutual respect, and demonstrating how organizations can support relational coordination through the design of high-performance work systems.
Gittell received her doctorate in management from MIT's Sloan School of Management, her master's degree in political economy from the New School for Social Research and her bachelor's degree in political science from Reed College.
