Nancy Folbre is professor of economics at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and staff economist at the Center for Popular Economics. She blogs weekly for The New York Times' lively Economix, the economy and economics for daily life blog. Previously, she had her own blog Care Talk, "coordinating research on care provision," and her earlier blogs are still available.
She was a visiting fellow at the Russell Sage Foundation (2004-05), was awarded a MacArthur Foundation "genius" Fellowship and won the Leontief Prize of the Global Development and Environment Institute, Tufts University, 2004. She serves as associate editor of the journal Feminist Economics. She is the editor of the 2012 book For Love and Money: Care Provision in the United States (Russell Sage Press).
Her research interests include the interface between feminist theory and political economy, explores the interface between economics and feminist theory, focusing on non-market work and the evolution of social institutions governing public support for child rearing.
Folbre received her bachelor's degree in philosophy and her master's degree in Latin American studies from the University of Texas and her doctorate in economics from the University of Massachusetts.
Folbre is the topic leader of the EPRN Work/Family Policy research cluster.
