Unemployed Mother's Day

The ideal Mother's Day present, blogs Folbre in her Economix blog, is not the traditional bouquet or box of chocolates. What mothers really need, especially if they are single, are jobs. Single mothers in 2010 averaged 14.6 percent unemployment, more than twice that among the married, male and female alike. Folbre advocates for publicly subsidized jobs for single parents and, for that matter, others who are willing and able to work.
